Unit 3 post

The environment of online learning has both pros and cons that are noted. The flexibility was a major decision making point when pursuing my education. I had been living a “third shift” life for numerous years and needed the opportunity to attend seminar/class late in the evening and to complete assignments in the hours I was awake and functional. Not many libraries are open 24 hours a day to complete research in!

I have always been a self-motivating, self-directing learner and actually prefer this atmosphere to the “structure” of in-class learning. This is the introvert side of my personality trying to exert itself!

One experience from my first term, which helped to bond the class together (and is taking place here in the blogs) was sharing photos in the “get to know you” area of the first unit. That helped to recognize who was writing/saying what, and give an idea on how to take the wording used in posts. I have continued the “friendship” with a number of people that were in that first course, and consider some to be, “the best!”

  1. I could imagine a 3rd shift life would be hard to adjust with going to a community college. I don't even know of any 24 hour libraries anywhere yet. I wish I was a little bit more of a self motivator but I like community college for the person to person contact. I think I like meeting new people and friends to actually hang out with. I like the accessibility of online college because of the scheduling but the convenience of doing it when I can. I think that's partially of why we are all here at Kaplan. We are completing a degree at our own pace and leisure.

  2. I agree Tiffany,

The online learning atmosphere allows us all to work at our own pace. I'm not sure leisure is a word in my vocabulary though! I enjoy the self-learning environment that online classes allow and promote. It's great to hear other views on this, and I look forward to hearing more from you in the weeks to come!
